What We Do

Our Activities

We collect donations from Englewood, Rotonda, Boca Grande, and Placida and distribute them to needy families in our area.  Donated items include all school-appropriate clothing for children in grades K-12, from socks to sweatshirts.  This includes dress and athletic shoes, as well as school supplies, personal hygiene items, and, of course, money.  We use donated money to pay for a variety of worthy goals, including: uniforms and certification exams for dual-enrolled Lemon Bay High School and Charlotte Vocational Technical Institute students, tutoring programs for high school and middle school students, school lunch programs, elementary school weekend backpack food programs, and the awarding of a college scholarship.  We have included a graphic representation of how we collect and distribute donations at right.

We maintain a store front for distribution of donated items in the Englewood Center at 226 South Indiana Avenue in Englewood.  This closet has clothing and other items for all age groups and is open from 5PM until 7PM most Thursdays throughout the year. The central closet is staffed by volunteers from the community who average approximately 46 hours of service each month.  In a typical month we will host visits from 25 area families, representing 58 children.

We sponsor special events throughout the year, such as the Holiday Assistance Program, Homecoming and Prom boutiques, and our fund-raising golf tournament.  We also coordinate with local civic organizations as they sponsor their own donation and collection efforts.  We participate in the Englewood YMCA's annual Back to School Bash by supplying back to school clothing, shoes, toiletries, and school supplies for approximately 500 students.  Watch this site for announcements of upcoming activities.
